It means our cattle run on open fields of grass and have ample fresh water from one of the many ponds David has built over the last 50 years. It means we know how many calves "Lucy" has had and she is a sweetie. It means we have had control of the animal's feed and medical needs for all of or most of it's life so we know the quality of beef we are providing our customers.
It means we treat our animals with respect and gentle processing when in the pens. It is our goal to keep them as happy and healthy as possible. Our pens have been designed for the least amount of contact with the animals as possible but still restrain and treat them if they are sick or injured. We will not let an animal suffer and die when there is a treatment we could administer to save it's life. It means almost half of the cows have names and they know them!
At this time we do not have formal farm tours set up but give us a call if you are in the neighborhood.
That depends on how much you want. We will have boxes starting at 20 pounds if all you have is the top of your frig and they go up from there. Half a beef is about 230 to 240 processed pounds depending on the cuts you want.
Rule of thumb is 35 pounds of packaged beef to a cubic foot of freezer space. So again it depends on how much beef you want.
We ask for deposits to reserve your half or whole beef on a first come first served basis. This way we can make decisions on how many we need to hold for your specific cutting instructions. You can't pay for a whole or half all at once because we will not know the weight until the calf is harvested and we have the hanging weight. Your final cost will be calculated on the hanging weights. For those wanting to order a beef box, your final costs will be on the weighed cuts of meat so until it is processed and weighed we can only guess at the exact total. With the recent events and the pandemic making people in the USA aware of where their beef is actually coming from the butchers are backed up. That limits us on the amount of our harvest and that limits how much beef we have to offer you, our customers. This is the biggest reason we ask for a deposit. So we are not holding beef for someone that has changed their mind when we could offer it to others.
